STARS Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the STARS Scholarship,

you must...

  • be a parent of a child under the age of 18 or who can be claimed as a dependent on your income taxes.  If single, you must be the custodial parent.
  • be a U.S. citizen.
  • be a resident of Pottawattamie County.
  • have a diploma or GED.
  • be out of high school at least two years.
  • be a full time student.
  • be Pell Grant eligible and/or receive

        public assistance.

Eligibility for a Bachelor's includes all of the above plus:

  • you must have earned an Associate's Degree
  • or you must be a third year student
  • minimum GPA of 2.75

This scholarship provides money to cover expenses not covered by financial aid or other programs. It may be granted for up to three years (four years for a Bachelor's degree) as long as the student remains full-time and is working on a degree, license or certification.

The STARS Scholarship may be used by scholars attending the following institutions: Iowa Western Community College, EQ School of Hair Design, Metropolitan Community College, UNO, Buena Vista University, Bellevue University, Clarkson College, College of St. Mary's, Creighton, Methodist and more. Other schools offering a minimum one year program may also be considered.
